Pastor Bobby L. Bridges
Mayfield Road
Baptist Church is blessed to have Dr. Bobby L.
Bridges as Pastor. Bobby Bridges pastors the church with a gentle,
encouraging spirit and a passion and dedication to the Lord, His word, and
the body of believers over which God has called him. He leads the
church with a mind for outreach and a future that is grounded in the
experience and wisdom passed to us through the early church. Pastor
Bobby commits himself to several church groups, including the youth,
college and singles, and adult ministries. His passion for his
calling to a pastor within the body of Christ shines forth and proves
consistently the talent the Lord has given him.
When asked how he came
to be pastor of Mayfield Road,
Pastor Bobby replies: "My praying and listening to God for some months
resulted in the call of the church in the spring of 1999." The
church had been seeking the Lord's choice for pastor for almost a year by
August of 1999 when Bobby Bridges was called.
God called him to
ministry at age eleven, when he heard a sermon on God's call-- the only
sermon on the subject he has ever heard. The call came shortly after
young Bobby came to salvation, when, at age nine at Oakwood Baptist Church
of Nashville, Tennessee, an overwhelming conviction of sin during the
message brought him forward and resulted in an immediate urge to
witness. God confirmed His call upon Bobby by returning him from the
brink of death at age thirteen, carrying him through a coma due to
Encephalitis without suffering brain damage. From then on, the Lord brought
a steady flow of ministry opportunities in a variety of roles for Bobby,
especially during him college and seminary years.
Fulton High
School of Knoxville,
TN (home of the Falcons) graduated Bobby Bridges in 1967. He went on
to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Belmont University in Nashville,
TN (go Bruins!) in
1974. His Master of Divinity was earned from Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Fort
Worth, TX in
1977. He has subsequently built upon his scholastic endeavors by
earning a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary in 1988, a Postgraduate Certificate in Biblical
Hermeneutics from Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY in 2005,
a Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in
2006, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Biblical Hermeneutics and
Homiletics from Oxford
University in Oxford, England in 2006.
Pastor Bobby serves
outside the church in the community as much as he does within the
church. He volunteers as a chaplain for the Arlington Police
Department, providing support and guidance for those in need any day of the
week, at any time, and rarely with advance notice. His volunteer
position there allows for ministry to people who, in many cases, would
otherwise receive no witness of the Lord. Arlington youth benefit from his
encouragement and help during community service projects and
excursions. Pastor Bobby serves the greater community as judge for
the Tarrant County Election Commission, and he serves as Treasurer for the
Tarrant Baptist Association. Beyond these, he is always active and
busy. Pastor Bobby has even chosen his favorite restaurant, Chili's
of south Arlington,
as his frequent and unofficial mission ground. Pastor Bobby is as
much a contributing member of Arlington
society as he is pastor of the church.
Bobby's favorite
passage of the Bible encompasses the book of Revelation in its
entirety. Eschatology and endtime events
are among his most favorite topics of study and discussion.

Pastor Bobby counts
himself blessed by God in having been led to Judy, his wife, during his
time in seminary. The two were married in New Albany, Mississippi
on June 24, 1978. Their son, Jonathan Christian Bridges, was born on
October 5, 1981 in Fort Worth,
Texas. Currently, he is
a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments in Fort
Worth, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion with a
minor in Finance from Dallas Baptist University,
Dallas, Texas.
