Instrumental Ministries
Sanctuary Orchestra
Mayfield Road
Baptist Church has a growing orchestra!
Current instrumentation includes: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet,
alto sax, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, percussion, guitar,
pianist, organist and a keyboardist. The orchestra plays each Sunday
morning except the first Sunday of the month (on which the Handbell Choir
plays).
The orchestra plays a
variety of music from congregational accompaniment to special pieces for
preludes and offertories. It also accompanies the Sanctuary Choir on many
anthems and plays for major musical presentations during the year.
Participation requires
two years' experience playing your musical instrument. The orchestra
meets for rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. for approximately one
to two hours to prepare for coming services and special pieces.
Handbell Choir
The Music Ministry has
a three octave set of Schulmerich Handbells. This bell choir plays on
the first Sunday of each month and during Christmas, Easter, and other
special programs.
Participation requires
that one be at least sixteen-years-old and have a minimal amount of music
reading ability. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons at 3:45 p.m. in
the Music Suite Handbell Room.
Student Bells
The Music Ministry
offers Student Bells for students in fourth grade through twelfth
grade. Rehearsals are one half-hour on Wednesday evenings at 5:45
p.m. in the Music Suite Handbell Room. This is a great tool for
students learning rhythm, notes, and basic music theory-- and it’s fun!
